Several described it as one of the best Sonic games and one of the best games of 2017. Its presentation, level design, music, and faithfulness to the early Sonic games were praised, but its lack of originality was criticized. Many reviewers saw it as a return to form for the Sonic series following a number of poorly received games released after the 1990s. Sonic Mania was released in August 2017 and became the highest-rated Sonic game in fifteen years. The team used Whitehead's Retro Engine and aimed for a graphical quality between Genesis and Sega Saturn games. Art, level design, audio, and additional programming were provided by independent studios PagodaWest Games and Headcannon. Development began after lead developer, director and programmer Christian "Taxman" Whitehead, who was previously contracted by Sega to develop enhanced mobile ports of Genesis Sonic games, presented a playable prototype to Sonic Team producer Takashi Iizuka. The development team was composed of members known for their work in the Sonic fangame and ROM hacking community. Produced in commemoration of the Sonic the Hedgehog series' 25th anniversary, Sonic Mania pays homage to the original Sega Genesis Sonic games, featuring speedy side-scrolling gameplay. i managed to get all rings besides the last 7 easily, the last seven are behind the last blue sphere and that's what i mean with four jumps.you just have to jump OVER four red spheres in a row and you are at the rings.Sonic Mania is a 2017 platform game published by Sega for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows. all in all, I'd say this is a regular gameplay stage, not a testing one, designed to be very easy for those who hunt for silver medals but not so much for those hunting for gold ones. ![]() For a second there, I thought I had misunderstood. Originally posted by Alex Khayrullin:OK then :). From that point onward, I ran through the stage as per usual and it was perfect, because the segments I now had in front of me were: sphere-rings, rings-sphere, sphere-rings, and finally rings-sphere, allowing me to grab the final ring before the final sphere. So I started jumping among starred spheres in order to bypass it, basically turning left or right after the stage begins (one of these leads to a much longer route than the other, sorry, can't remember which one), jumping until I know I can turn left or right, then turning, and keeping on jumping until I found myself on sphere-free ground. What I did it this: I figured if the stage goes in a circle and has four segments: rings-sphere, then sphere-rings, then again rings-sphere, then sphere-rings (and I can't get the latter rings because I have all the blue spheres by this point), I had to bypass the first segment somehow. Jump over four red spheres? Which ones? Because if all it takes is a couple of jumps, then my take on this level was more tedious than it needed to be.

Used by star producers and musicians for composing, recording, mixing, and editing music, Cubase Pro combines outstanding audio quality, intuitive handling, and a collection of highly advanced audio and MIDI tools. ![]() The Drum Editor and List Editor also do their job well for editing rhythm and MIDI events, respectively, though the main Key Editor is so good that I rarely find myself bringing these windows up.Cubase Pro for Mac condenses almost three decades of Steinberg development into the most cutting-edge DAW anywhere. In addition to comprehensive symbol support, it also supports lyrics, drum notes, guitar tabs, and lead sheets, and can import and export XML files. Just about anything you can do to a note is intuitive.Ĭubase 7's Score Editor is another winner, with enough notation tools that many people could get by with this program alone and not need a separate notation program. Dedicated buttons let you turn scrolling during playback on and off, and even whether you want the view to stop scrolling when you start editing. The new harmony tool helps out with putting together chord progressions, which is a useful idea I bet other DAW manufacturers will soon copy.īy switching between cursor tools using the number keys, and by using Cubase's various shortcuts that make workflow more quickly, I find it easier to play in, lay down, edit, and arrange MIDI clips with Cubase more than any other DAW. The floating Transport Bar is fully customizable you can pop in or out individual modules as needed. A lane across the bottom makes it virtually instantaneous to edit volume or other MIDI control data. The Inspector offers transpose, quantize, length, and other useful tools that are easier to access here than in competing sequencers. You can do just about anything during playback, including switching editing tools, deleting notes, and adjusting other notes. Cubase 7's strong MIDI roots are evident right from the beginning. User Interface and Workflow With all that out of the way, let's dive into the main program. That rules out all recent Ultrabook PCs and MacBook Airs, at least without an external optical drive attached. On a laptop with just two USB ports, such as with any MacBook Pro, it can be a huge annoyance-especially since many audio interfaces and other peripherals prohibit the use of a USB hub in their user manuals, and since moving the laptop with the dongle attached risks breakage each time.Īnother downside: While you can buy SONAR and Logic Pro as online downloads, Cubase 7 requires a retail store or mail-order purchase-plus an optical drive in your machine. If you buy Cubase 7 and plan on purchasing any major plug-ins, you'll end up with at least two USB keys, which isn't a situation you'll usually encounter when using other major sequencers. Most plug-ins requiring USB dongle protection, including industry-standard ones from Waves, EastWest, Avid, and iZotope, employ PACE iLok, a competing standard. Steinberg goes a step further, though, and uses eLicenser, which only works with Korg, reFX, and Arturia plug-ins. Cubase 7 uses a USB dongle, which automatically puts it at a disadvantage next to Cakewalk SONAR See it at Amazon UK on the PC and Apple Logic Pro 9 on the Mac. Steinberg's copy protection scheme is more annoying than it needs to be. I also personally own older versions of Cubase (up to version 4) and have had no trouble getting them all running on various machines over the years Cubase tends to just work, in my experience, which is a good thing indeed. System Requirements and Copy Protection For this review, I tested Cubase 7.0.3 on a quad-core 2.93GHz Xeon Mac Pro running OS X 10.7.5 (Lion) and a quad-core MacBook Pro 15-inch running OS X 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). Its new mixing console is exceptional just plan on setting it up with a big monitor to get the most out of it. It's particularly well suited for MIDI composition with virtual synthesizers-and is, in our opinion, the smoothest of the major DAWs at this-although it's also a capable audio and post-production tool overall. The latest version, Cubase 7 ($499.99 direct), is a powerful, ultra-flexible recording environment. ![]() Steinberg Cubase has a long and storied history in the music industry, first appearing on the Atari ST more than two decades ago before migrating to Macs and PCs. In Helheim, the dead participate in the same activities as Viking age men and women: eating, drinking, fighting, sleeping, and so on. What is life in Helheim like?Īlthough the underworld is rarely described in the sources, when it is, it is often portrayed in a positive light.Īs a place where the dead live on in some capacity, it is sometimes portrayed as a land of startlingly abundant life on the other side of death. No other source makes this distinction, and several examples provide evidence to the contrary. Snorri himself contradicts his distinction between Valhalla and Helheim in his version of the story of Baldr, Odin’s son, who is violently killed but is nonetheless carried to Hel. Snorri’s assertion that those who die in battle go to Valhalla, the sublime hall of Odin, while those who die from sickness or old age go to Hel is unrealistic. He was fond of presenting his pre-Christian ancestors as anticipating aspects of Christianity based on the evidence available to him. Snorri wrote many generations after Norse paganism had been replaced by Christianity and ceased to be a living tradition. Snorri Sturluson in the Prose Edda describes Helheim as a thoroughly unpleasant place. While the Old Norse sources are far from clear on how one ended up in one of the Norse afterlife realms instead of another, what is evident is that where one goes after death is not a reward for moral behavior or pious belief, nor is it a punishment for immoral behavior or impious belief. However, this notion is a point of contention amongst Norse mythology experts. It has been said that all people who die from illness, old age, or are regarded as cowards or dishonorable by the Gods and Goddesses will end up in the realm of Helheim.Īccording to the Viking Age, if you did not die in battle, you would simply go to Helheim. ![]() ![]() (2021) estimated that shortly after the Moon was formed, when the Moon orbited 10-15 times closer to Earth than it does now, tidal heating might have contributed ~10 W/m 2 of heating over perhaps 100 million years, and that this could have accounted for a temperature increase of up to 5☌ on the early Earth. The methods of space geodesy-altimetry, satellite laser ranging, lunar laser ranging-have converged to 3.7 TW. Egbert & Ray (2001) confirmed that overall estimate, writing "The total amount of tidal energy dissipated in the Earth-Moon-Sun system is now well-determined. Munk & Wunsch (1998) estimated that Earth experiences 3.7 TW (0.0073 W/m 2) of tidal heating, of which 95% (3.5 TW or 0.0069 W/m 2) is associated with ocean tides and 5% (0.2 TW or 0.0004 W/m 2) is associated with Earth tides, with 3.2 TW being due to tidal interactions with the Moon and 0.5 TW being due to tidal interactions with the Sun. The water vapor geysers which eject material from Enceladus are thought to be powered by friction generated within its interior. Saturn's moon Enceladus is similarly thought to have a liquid water ocean beneath its icy crust, due to tidal heating related to its resonance with Dione. Jupiter maintains the moons' orbits via tides they raise on it and thus its rotational energy ultimately powers the system. However, the heating of the latter is weaker, because of reduced flexing-Europa has half Io's orbital frequency and a 14% smaller radius also, while Europa's orbit is about twice as eccentric as Io's, tidal force falls off with the cube of distance and is only a quarter as strong at Europa. The same mechanism has provided the energy to melt the lower layers of the ice surrounding the rocky mantle of Jupiter's next-closest large moon, Europa. Io's eccentricity persists as the result of its orbital resonances with the Galilean moons Europa and Ganymede. Tidal heating is responsible for the geologic activity of the most volcanically active body in the Solar System: Io, a moon of Jupiter. ![]() In this more complex system, orbital and rotational energy still is being converted to thermal energy however, now the orbit's semimajor axis would shrink rather than its eccentricity. ![]() Sustained tidal heating occurs when the elliptical orbit is prevented from circularizing due to additional gravitational forces from other bodies that keep tugging the object back into an elliptical orbit. This energy gained by the object comes from its orbital energy and/or rotational energy, so over time in a two-body system, the initial elliptical orbit decays into a circular orbit ( tidal circularization) and the rotational periods of the two bodies adjust towards matching the orbital period ( tidal locking). the tidal bulge) varies over the course of its orbit, generating internal friction which heats its interior. Thus the deformation of the body due to tidal forces (i.e. When an object is in an elliptical orbit, the tidal forces acting on it are stronger near periapsis than near apoapsis. Tidal heating (also known as tidal working or tidal flexing) occurs through the tidal friction processes: orbital and rotational energy is dissipated as heat in either (or both) the surface ocean or interior of a planet or satellite. ![]() Grey wolf pups grow up to be accomplished of hunting large animals like deer. Grey wolves and white wolves are probably the most famous types of Wolf puppies known to humans. As they grow older, some of the wolf puppies leave the pack and find a mate of their own, and then maybe create their own pack or join a new one. Even at a young age wolf pups hunt small animals like squirrels and rabbits as practice for when they are allowed to hunt with the adult members of their pack. They even deploy toys like bones or wooden branches or other such random things and treat them as their prey. So they are basically just training for life in the wild even as kids. Animal researchers, in fact, have actually found that the games that these pups play replicate the actions of an adult wolf. They spar and play a lot with their litter mates. They are taught a lot of things by the adult members of the wolf pack from the very beginning. Wolf pups, even at a young age are very active. ![]() About eight months after they are born, they are considered grown up enough to accompany the other adults for hunting. They cannot leave the den and that is why it is important for the mother to keep it clean and free of any infectious bacteria and germs. Because the wolf pups don’t open their eyes until almost 10 to 12 weeks after their birth, and they can’t hear either, they need to be taken care of very keenly by their mother. The den, or the place where the female wolf gives birth, is maintained as a clean place by the mother wolf. But it takes around eight months for these pups to grow completely up and accompany the other adult wolves on hunting trips. ![]() The gestation period of wolf pups are around 63 days. This also protects the baby wolves from other harmful animals in the forest as well as any rough weather. If they do not have access to a cave then the other members of the pack, likely male young adult wolves, dig a hole in the ground which has ample space for the mother and her litter. Interestingly, they have a high sense of smell, probably to compensate for the lack of the senses of eyes and ears.įemale wolves give birth to the pups in a sheltered space like a cave. They only develop these sense after being born as they grow up. We're not kidding here. For instance, Wolf pups are born blind and deaf. Please note that this is extremely uncommon. NOTE: The very FEW cases of high content Arctic crosses being born white or piebald was the result of severe, multi-generational inbreeding or line breeding where BOTH parents carried the white gene from the dog in their lineage. Please remember that just because an animal is white, that does not mean it is an Arctic wolf or wolf cross. Additionally, most Arctics originate from just a couple pairs of original breeding animals, and most are highly inbred due to this fact. This deception relies on purchasers of the puppies not knowing that not only are Arctic wolves born with dark coats, but that they are also much more uncommon than wolfdogs stemming from British Columbian stock. Many unscrupulous breeders will try to pass off either other subspecies of wolves or, more commonly, white dogs as Arctic wolves/crosses. Two Arctic wolfdog cross puppies and an Arctic wolfdog cross yearling showing off the “dirty face” marking Like all wolves, Arctic wolf puppies are born a dark solid color, and after several weeks, develop a distinct facial marking that will persist until they turn completely white-a kind of “dirty face” marking running from the inner corners of their eyes to the sides of their muzzle.
